There are lots of other people searching for this man - lots of info on the net.
My link is his daughter Frances Rigley b1857 Strand, London who moved to Grimsby with her mother Mary Ann Rigley (Starling)and married David Wood 1876 Grimsby.
Her siblings Mary Ann Zoe Rigley b 1846, Henry Adolphus Riley b 1849, Maria Sophia Rigley b 1854 all eventually ended up in Grimsby - I have all their details.
Their father was Henry Adolphus Rigley b 1800 and baptised St Dunstan in the West, London, 18th May.
He married Emilia Perry 18th May1839 Lambeth St Mary. Fathers name given as Henry Rigley. Both were solicitors.
I don't think they had any children but I cannot find Henry on 1841 census.
I also don't think the marriage lasted very long. Emilia is on 1841 with maybe her sister or SIL - ind.means
and with her brother on 1851 census - it says Visitor but I think maybe sister?
Back to Henry Adophus - I think he may have been in debtors prison for either or both of 1841 and 51 censuses.
His 4 children are with his 2nd wife/ mistress Mary Ann Rigley (as Bigley)- I cant find a marriage - on 1861 census
His eldest child:
Name: Mary Ann Loe Rigley
[Mary Ann Zoe Rigley]
Record Type: Baptism
Baptism Date: 15 Nov 1846
Father's Name: Henry Rigley
Mother's Name: Mary Ann Starling
Parish or Poor Law Union: Walworth St John the Evangelist
Borough: Southwark
Register Type: Parish Registers
Reads Mary Ann Starling BY Henry Rigley This is why I think they never married.
I found this on the net but cannot find Henry
"Henry Adolphus RIGLEY was in Gravesend in the 1841 census, and in prison for insolvency in London in the 1851 census"
There are refs to this insolvency easily found on the net.
My confusion is also to his parentage.
His marriage to Emilia gives Henry as father. see above.
But his Baptism gives John and Elizabeth:
If anyone can help sort out Henry it will be those on FTF!!
Thanks
