  • Anyone got any time to solve a mystery ?

Have a Teresina Louise Tomaselli born 29 Oct 1920 Kensington

Father Valentine Tomaselli Mothers maiden name Sully

Now this is the poser Valentine was married to a Guisseppina maiden name Swar and they were still married at this time and Guisseppina did not die till 1973

    Their other children were

    Rosie 1907 Paddington
    Maria 1908 Poplar
    James 1910 Poplar
    Walter 1912 Poplar
    Antonio 1913 Stepney

Could this be a transcription error or can anybody find the likely mother Thanks

On the FMP index, James, Walter & Antonio are transcribed as Tomasello

On the image itself, Walter's mmnrecorded as Sivar

    Jay
    Janet in Yorkshire

Genealogists never die - they just swap places in the family tree

There is a Valendine Tomaselle on the 1911 census with wife Josephine. Was josephine Guiseppina?

        Thanks both
That is the same family in 1911 Sunny, Guisseppina called herself Josephine too,
Janet we think the Sivar was meant to be Swar, they are Tomasellis .

Yes I have their marriage cert thanks Sunny, and that marriage is my Valentine and Guiseppina in 1906, I wondered if maybe Valentine had a fling with a girl surname Sully?
Elaine their name gets mistranscribed quite a bit and that Antonio is Valentine and Guisseppinas child.

Surely SULLY is just a mishearing/mistranscription of 'SELLI, as in TomaSELLI.

I'm inclined to think its someone's interpretation of a hand written Swar from the marriage register. The person at the GRO transcribing it probably hadn't heard of the name Swar. Apart from the 'y' at the end of Sully I can imagine that the first part of the name could be misinterpreted. Mind you, there is a big gap between the last 2 children

                          Val

Quite a few of my female relatives gave the wrong maiden name when asked - I think when asked "mother's name?" some of mine gave their own mother's name, rather than their maiden name.

But I can see what Jackie means as well - if you write a scrawly "Swar" it does look a bit like Sully, especially if you've never heard of the name SWAR.
