    Hi
Please if possible could someone look on the 1911 census for me.
Looking for Elizabeth White and her children
    Mary 1909 ?
    Sally 1907?
She also had two sons not sure on their ages or names.
Elizabeth may be widowed at this time as later on she went on to marry
my granddad William Harrison in 1918.
    They lived in Hindley Wigan
Thanks for any help on this matter
    Dorcus

With a name like White Dorcas I think we need a bit more information. Do you know the name of her first husband perhaps? I can't find a birth for Sally White around that time at all.

Was White a married name or a maiden name?

I think she was Elizabeth E White by marriage Vonny, going by her second marriage and the fact that she already had children.

We definitely could do with a date and place of birth, it's like fishing in an open sea without that information. White is such a common name. She could have been born out of the Wigan/Warrington/Makerfield areas, she may well have lived in Hindley but not necessarily born there. If you have the children's names are there any birth certificates for them?

I'm afraid I can't even find a marriage for a Hemmingway to a White that fits.

Ahhhh I think I have found it. If I have the right one it's in July-Sept 1933 Eastry Kent, under Hemingway (one m) and his name is Willoughby. He was born Oct 1913 and died June 1989 Barnsley aged 75.

I wonder if this one is any use to you? Given that Sally was most often a diminutive for Sarah:

                        Household Members:
                        Name Age
                        Alfred White 37
                        Elizabeth White 35
                        Henry Alexander White 11
                        Mary Elizabeth White 9
                        Sarah White 6
                        Edward White 4

                        Civil Parish: West Derby
                        County/Island: Lancashire
                        Country: England
Street Address: 7 Terrace 2 House Blucher St Edge Hill

Just that there's a Mary and possibly a Sally and 2 sons with mum Elizabeth.

the distance between Wigan and Edge Hill seems to be 15-18 miles as the crow flies if I'm calculating correctly so in the right general area? ;)

Just to confuse things a little, transcribed as Elizabeth Ellen, but if you look at the image she's a White and although there's no Mary there is a sarah (Sally?) and a son.
