I don't think there is a problem reading this name but it's so unusual that I wonder if anyone else has heard of it. I read it as ' Handable'...........

I wonder if it was supposed to be HANNIBAL?
I'm just reading about someone who was registered as SADLY because her father could not pronounce the name SALLY!

Very plausible OC but The Marriage Register clearly shows Handable so in it goes.

Whatever it is intended to be he will stand out in the crowd when his descendants are trying to trace him, unlike a John, William or Thomas

Quite probable Jill. Wonder if he was called 'Handy' for short?
