Could someone please have look for a Chelsea Pensioner on findmypast - I'm hoping it will give me details of his marriage.

Frederick Dickenson, b 1852 from Oxford, Oxfordshire.

Also if possible his year of entry into the army - I have him in 1871 in London, as a servant in a dept store, then by 1891 he is a Sergeant Major in the 1st Coldstream Guards.

    Many thanks
    Linda

    I don't have findmypast, sorry. :(

Frederick in 1901 with wife Sarah: http://search.ancestry.com.au/cgi-bi...off=&ml_rpos=1

This is Frederick and Sarah Dewry's marriage in Windsor, Berkshire where she was born: http://search.ancestry.com.au/cgi-bi...dy=1881&cpxt=1

But you'd know this much already. ;)

        Hi Linda,

He was born in Marshbaldon, Oxfordshire. Enlisted 19 September 1871 at the Tower of London. He was 19 years old.

He left the service in 1895. His number was 2847.

There are seven pages for him. I had a quick look but couldn't see anything about a marriage.

Thanks to the two of you - have done some more digging, and found that Sarah's father was the publican for the pub just up from the barracks in Windsor - bet that was where they met!

Also noticed on the 1911, that even though she was a widow she entered the details for children () saying one born, still living. However, there wasn't a child with them on any of the censuses. Could you have another quick look and see if one is mentioned.. I would be really grateful!

                Hi Linda,

I am charging off to work but from the FMP papers they had a son Frederick Henry born 4 October 1882. I can't make out where - it begins with a C. Wil look later for you.

Hi Felix, they were Samuel H and Ellen Dewey and they ran the Falcon Pub in William Street in Windsor.

bcbrit - that's wonderful, thanks so much for that info.

That's really interesting. It's always nice to get bits of family history like that and fit the picture together ;)

                    1881 census if it's any help: http://search.ancestry.com.au/cgi-bi...off=&ml_rpos=1

Ooh - I think I found him - Frederick Henry Dickenson born Dec quarter 1882 in Godstone Surrey - included in this area is Caterham, and there is a Frederick Henry in the 1901, from Caterham as a trooper in Regents Park Barracks.
