  • Nice handwriting but I can't read it.

He/she is witness to a marriage in Liverpool 1862. The groom is a Mariner so could be a shipmate from another country.
    Can anyone help please?

That's what I saw it is too. I found a ref to someone of this name in a New Zealand newspaper so it is a believable name http://paperspast.natlib.govt.nz/cgi...9120916.2.56.1

Thanks Judith & Anne, you're probably right; I hadn't come across the name before.
Hi Jacky, I first thought it was a John something but lost confidence with it.

Johwenn Thamen would be my reading of it. Maybe a variation of Johann ?

A plausible option Anthony, thanks...................if only the first letter's 'J' finished below the line, I'd like it better.

I thought Schwenn as in Sven when I wrote it.

                  I find Anne's reading persuasive.

I have moved on now; entered Schwenn and let the ancestors blame you if it is something else
