  • Manchester and Basildon records

    Hi

Are there any records online for the period 1940s-1980s for the Manchester area and also for Basildon in Essex? Anything like local phone books or electoral rolls? I've checked the British Phone Books 1880-1948 on Ancestry, but was just wondering if there was anywhere else I could try.

    Many thanks

electoral rolls are in the record offices. as far as i know ancestry only has london and dorset electoral rolls. FMP has manchester record office records, but not electoral rolls. they have cheshire and UK electoral registers (2002-2013).

you might have to email the record offices and hope they can help.

Thanks. I didn't know about the Dorset ones on ancestry and that's helpful too.

I'll email the record offices and see how I go.

May be a bit early for you but the Essex Record Office has the 1929 electoral register online. Go SEAX

        Click> images
        Search: electoral
and you will see some for 1929. You just need to find out the division which covers Basildon.

Otherwise, they have many, many electoral registers for this period. Click back to> everything. Search with> electoral register and you'll see over 1317 hits.
