I am once again attempting to tackle my HOLMES side [and failing miserably!]

I know that Edward HOLMES was born 14th July 1810 and baptised in Smisby, Derbyshire s/o Joseph & Mary HOLMES
there is also a Ann HOLMES born 9th March 1808 @ Smisby, Derbyshire d/o Joseph & Mary HOLMES

what I can't find are anymore children to this set of parents, I think I have Mary in the 1841 census, with son Edward and Harriet his wife.

I believe I have identified three deaths which could possibly be Ann, Mary and Joseph, they seemed to have moved back over the border into Leicestershire and ended up in the Breedon parish which encompassed Worthington, which is nearby to Newbold/Lount/Whitwick, [where the Holmes' eventually settled/died]

I am totally flummoxed as I can't even pinpoint a Marriage for Joseph & Mary, though I have an idea that Mary came from Worthington, [I have found a 1851 census that could be her, i'll see if I can find the relevant ones]

any help/ideas suggestions would be most gratefully received, ta.

yep, Ashby de la Zouch is the reg dist [and also a place] Breedon is also a parish but has a beautiful church on top of a hill that can be seen for miles, Smisby is slap bang on the border of ADLZ with Derbyshire, one side of Breedon is Smisby/Ashby and Worthington/Lount/Newbold/Whitwick is on the other side, so, if you imagine breedon in the middle and the others surrounding it in a circle.

have a look on google maps, you will see what I mean..

I do have Edwards bapt in the non-cons and it does state that he was bapt in Smisby. [I actually spied the Non-Con section on ancestry today, which is what has prompted this search again.. ] SO much easier now I don't have to swap and look in a number of different places for the info!..

that Marriage does look interesting Elaine, I did find 'somewhere, online' marriages for Breedon in a database. i'll have to see if I can find that again

I have just had a look at Edwards bapt again, and it states Edward s/o Joseph & Mary HOLMES OF Smisby, just goes to show how many times I have looked at this and misread it!!

I have no idea of Josephs occupation either.

ok, so, doing some maths Mary was possibly born in/around 1776 [according to 1841 cens age] add 21 to it and you get 1797, so it is entirely possible that the marriage you have found is the correct one.

i'll have a shuftie and see if I can find a bapt for her.

hmm, thats what I had found too... Mary could be the same one, not sure about Joseph though, like you say he would be much older than her wouldn't he. did you see any other Joseph HOLMES burials at all Elaine? the census I found doesn't mention a husband at all, and I have also found a Mary in 1851, though this one is with a Samuel I think it was, I'll see if I can find that.
