  • 'Red Card' ??

    Hi all

I'm looking into a relative and one sighting which may be her is in the Poor Law Removal and Settlement Records in Stepney 1836 - let's pretend this is her for now.

Next to her name in the book copy is her age (12) then the words 'red card' and a number, 71.

Does anyone know what red card could mean? I have tried to look it up but no joy.

    Thank you in advance

    Amanda

P.s. Her name is Mary (Ann) Robinson, born 1821 I think, Spitalfields.

In the dark depths of my brain i have a recollection that the red card index was used for children that had been abandoned/orphaned and where moved between the parishes or someone had made a claim for them.
