Well done Jay, I think you've cracked it!
Still can't find them indexed on Ancestry though.

          Thanks,

On 1920 census he is a Superintendent at Ship Yard

          on 1930 a Private Secretary

and then an 1940 a Greenhouse Gardener. Bit of a mixture but I'm pretty sure that's then on the 1940 one.

          Thanks Ladies

Pity there's no 1935 for NY state to check "same house."
Bear in mind the Great Depression in the USA in the 1930's - lots of businesses folded, mass unemployment, a new job creation scheme under FDR, so there would have been changes in employment prospects for the majority of the population.

                Thanks very much.

Doesn't really tell me much more but nice to have the 'full set'

They had a little girl Marie born 1919 and died at 3 years old when her nightie caught alight. They are all buried together in NY

                Thanks

                Linda

Not sure if this is what you meant, but "Same place" in Column 17 means that they were living in the same town/city in 1935, but not the same house.

Have you tried locating a local newspaper to see if the family made it into the town news sections? I haven't looked for a Queens newspaper, but the local public library frequently knows about such things, and may even have a look up service. Especially for obituaries, which might be quite detailed. The Brooklyn paper is online, but it probably won't have info about Queens residents.
