Ah could be. I was reading the 81 as St, as in Saint.
Now need to check the maps. There is a Gravel Lane in Aldgate but why would they come to Southwark to get married. Must have been another Gravel Lane in the area!!

mmm. suspect more than one Grval Lane in the area. Also think my note of Gravel Lane now being Sumner Street is wrong as Sumber Lane is there on Weller's 1868 map of London.
Antony. Think you are correct. However the Ewer Street there now is not the same one as in 1868. Then Ewer Street ran East-West and not North-South as it does now. Gravel Lane appears to have been at the eastern end of Ewer street, running North-South, more or less along the line of the current railway line just to the West of Nelson Square, which is still there.
Is there a turn of the century map of London online anywhere?
