  • Noseworthy's of devon area

I am researching my grandfather's ancestors. James Noseworthy arrived in Bryant's Cove, Newfoundland from the Devon Area in the 1700's and died there May 19, 1778. He had sons James, Charles & William. His parents may have been James & Grace. Any info would be appreciated. Thanks

FMP's Devon records aren't early enough to help.

There are lots of early probate records on Ancestry for Noseworthy (and variants) from Devon.

        What else do you know?

I think James & Grace were married in 1710
Their son James was baptised circa 1717
Son James died in Bryant's Cove, Nfld. in 1778
Which would make him about 45 yrs old. when he died.
Family lore states he was born in Devon.
I am looking for any info connecting him to family in Devon

                thanks

                    Hi there,

I found your question today and I also found other information related to my own research which is, I believe, related to your question.

I contacted a person who was able to supply with some information regarding a Thomas Noseworthy who was married in Bryant's Cove, Newfoundland in 1826 which is as far as I got with my previous research.

Anyway, the information he gave me said that James, married to Ann, was Thomas's father and that his father was James Noseworthy (Sr.) as well. James Sr. was said to have died in Bryant's Cove in 1778 which is why I believe my information relates to yours.

The other information I was given on James Sr. looks like this "b ca 1725 Devon". I think this means born or baptized circa 1725 Devon. You said above that your James was born in 1717 in Devon and died in 1778. These are likely the same person.

So my question to you is how did you verify that the James who died in Bryant's Cove in 1778 was the person born in Devon in 1717?

By the way, you are welcome to any information I have if you want it, including the piece I received today.

                    Thanks
                    Todd
