1.John BARNSLEY married Mary Maria HAYWOOD in 1862 at St Philip Birmingham - we have the marriage certificate. Their eldest child, Walter BARNSLEY, was born in 1863 (Birmingham).
The marriage cert states that Mary Maria HAYWOOD was the daughter of Henry HAYWOOD, whip maker, b. abt 1820 B'ham.
2. Mary Maria HAYWOOD was born 5 Aug 1841, at Woodcock St, Aston Birmingham. We have the birth certificate which says that her father Henry was a whip maker and her mother was Martha HAYWOOD, formerly HAMMOND.
3. I have found the family, I believe, in 1841, living in Woodcock street, Aston B'ham. There is Henry, 23, whipmaker, his wife Martha, 20, not born in county and Amelia, 2, born in county.
4.Move on to 1851.....I have found at 6 Court High Street, B'ham, Henry, 31, b. B'ham, whip maker, Martha, his wife, 30, b. Stourbridge Worcs and Emma, daur, 10,b. B'ham.
No mention of Amelia, no sign of a Mary Maria.
5. 1861, the same scenario...now living at 155 Gt Brook St Aston ...Henry (whip maker), Martha and Emma..name spelled Heywood this time. Still no mention of Mary Maria
I was beginning to think I was following the wrong family......but then looked at 1871
6. 155 Gt Brook St (Huckster's Shop)
Henry (now a Provision dealer), Martha.......and grandson Walter Barnsley.
7. What do you think....is Emma Haywood actually Mary Maria Haywood? Or is Mary Maria concealed somewhere else. I can accept that Amelia may have died between birth and 1851, but the rest is doing my head in.
Opinions please.
