  • Annie's three boys.

    Annie Phillips Penitentiary story is finally solved.

    She had 3 children;

    John or Jonny as I like to call him due to the amount of people by the name of John Phillips that I have.
    He was born on 14th Oct 1903 in Stockton, St James Parish.
    He died on 15th Aug 1914 in Stockton, St James Parish as the adopted son of Thomas Phillips & his wife Elizabeth (Annie's older brother)

    Robert William was baptized on 1 June 1905 in Stockton, St James Parish.
    This is the only information that we have yet to find on him.

    George Frederick was baptized on 28th March 1907 in Stockton, St James Parish.
    He died 31st July 1909 in the Union Workhouse.

    Our theory is that Annie was able to get away with 1 fatherless child but by the time that George was born she was deemed a "fallen woman" for having 3 children born out of wedlock and was thus sent to St Mary's Home which is another name for Durham Penitentiary.

    http://boards.ancestry.co.uk/localit....2.1.1/mb.ashx Explanation of the Penitentiary located in the Gilesgate area.

    I guess all I need to do now is figure out what happened to Robert William and then I'm finished with Granddad's Aunts, Uncle's, Cousin's, Siblings & Grandparents.
    Lennon. Phillips. Thomas. Peacock. Tubridy. Burton.

    I am the girl from that town & I'm darn proud of it.
