  • Ancestry: Copying peeps from one tree to another

I've got a Tree that's a bit all-over-the-place and think it would be easier to start again. Except that I'd rather not have to key everything in again AND then attach all the census records etc for the people I'm sure about.

I've seen that there's a Copy This Record to Another Tree option, but am unsure how it works. Does it just copy them into the new tree and there they sit unconnected to anyone until you manually connect them as son/daughter/wife/mother/father/etc?

    Has anyone used it successfully?

    Any advice/information gratefully received.

    Thanks

I suggest you create a new tree with a distinctive name such as Try1.

Create an obviously fictitious person e.g. Micky Mouse.

Then copy the record of one of your people and see what happens.

On a person's profile page, underneath the name, birth/death info, the last item on the right is More Options and in there is "Save Person to Another Tree".
