Work House records for Leigh Lancashire

Hi, I am wondering if anyone in the area of Leigh Lancashire knows whether records exist for the work house in Atherton for 1925? My Father in law was born in Leigh Road Atherton as illegitimate. He is deceased and my hubby didn't know him. I am beginning to wonder if he was born in the workhouse which is why he never talked about family. I know he was adopted but must have had some contact with family as my hubby has a Miss M Higgins on his baptism certificate. Can any one help
