I’ve been absolutely stuck on this for ages so am hoping the kind folk here will be able to help.
I’ve not been able to find a marriage certificate that I am certain is in her correct surname. In the 1951 census she is the head of the household but I can’t find a record of William’s death/burial so no clues there. I am desperate to trace both hers and William’s lineage, so any help would be much appreciated.
Does anybody recognise this family:
Sarah married William Mead and had 8 children:
Mary Ann – born 1819 East Ham, Essex.
Henry John (died at 8 months) – born 1820 East Ham, Essex.
Elizabeth – born 1822 East Ham, Essex.
William James (presumably died) – born 1824 Plashet, East Ham, Essex.
John Matthew – born 1827 East Ham, Essex.
Sarah – born 1829 East Ham, Essex.
Henry John – born 1830 Great Ilford, Essex.
William James – born 1832 Great Ilford, Essex.
In 1819 she is living in East Ham, Essex.
In 1824 she is living in Plashet, East Ham, Essex.
Circa 1830 she is living in Great Ilford, Essex.
In the 1841 census she is aged 44 and living at 8 Alfred Place, Bermondsey, London. Both she and her husband are marked as not of this county.
In the 1851 census she is aged 55, still married though husband is not with her, and head of the household, still at 8 Alfred Place, Bermondsey, a laundress. Born Leeds.
In the 1861 census she is now aged 68 [and a widow], living with her son William, who is now head of the household, at 8 Alfred Place, Bermondsey. Born Leeds.
In the 1871 census she is aged 78, still living with William at 51 Salisbury Street, Bermondsey. Born Leeds.
Her death certificate: 14.1.1872. Dies at 51 Salisbury Street. Age 79. The widow of William Mead, Carman. Informant was Mary Ann Mead, who lived at 49 Salisbury Street. Registered: 17.1.1872.
Thanks for reading.
