  • Lost bear ... can we help?

Just heard this on the radio:

Bristol Airport is trying to find the owner of an antique teddy bear left in a carrier bag within the departure lounge more than a year ago.

I wonder if we can find the owner!

the actual photograph states that the photo was taken on Babys birthday, MARCH 4th 1918, aged 1 year and 5 months old. [if that helps at all]

Having re read it several times I agree, I think the bear is called Sonnie & the girls are Dora & Glyn.
Glyn cound be short for Glynis.

or it could be a girl (Dora) and a boy called Glyn. It says daughter and sonnie which I took to be variation of son

                the whole wording states:

with dearest love & x's to our darling Daddy from your loving Daughter & Sonnie.

                Dora & Glyn
I take that to be that Dora & sonnie [bear] then Glyn is the son and also 'baby'.

so, if Glyn is 1 yr & 5 months old and a boy.. maybe that is the starting point to work from?

I thought it read 'to daddy from daughter and sonnie' who then sign themselves Dora & Glyn.

Now I'm bathed, dressed and breakfasted, I am back to this .. I think Jackie is right, so reckoning that the younger of the two is the boy ....... my brain hurts!!

At least they are young enough to have the maiden name transcribed.

I reckon the boy is the younger of the two? How old does Dora look?

Where did those "smilies" come from, they seem to have replaced some of the Ds?

That does my theory in then Moggie On Genuki it only gave Llanelly and Carmarthen. So I cross checked the Glyn births - March and June 1918 with the Dora births 1914 to 1917 (all Llanelly and Carmarthen) but no match. Now I see that it could have been elsewhere in Wales.

The smilies are because you are putting colons or semi colons before D without a space which equals a smilie.

                              The S & R I think = S & R Dura

So do we think this photo was taken circa August 1919? If so, she would have been born c1815-1816?

I only had Pontypridd and Merthyr Tidfil left to do but the list is so long for Glyn (March and June 1918) that I was hoping to narrow down the Dora one a bit.

p.s. I don't think I can face it - so if anyone else wants to do Pontypridd and Merthyr Tidfil cross checking?
