French records

I am trying to trace the parents of Ezra and Jacques Shama.

Ezra and Jacques were born in 1882 and 1890 in Egypt but their parents were born in France.

I know this information is extremely scant but hoped that someone, somewhere might have access to French birth and/or marriage records.

you need to know where in france the family came from, there is no centralised database like in england. everything is still held in the departemental archives.

Many thanks for your replies, yes Ezra's daughter was/is Ginette.

My scenario is rather complicated and has been ongoing for a number of years. My inquiries have been extensive but elusive and often what seemed a brilliant thread to follow then fizzled out and I'd hit yet another brick wall.

My latest investigations have led me to Ezra H. Shama born 1882 in Egypt whose parents were of French descent, hence my request for information.

In answer to your second reply Henry Ezra Shama, born in Alexandria, did emigrate to Sydney and we 'think' my Ezra was possibly his grandfather and Ginette could have been Ezra's illegitimate daughter.

Unfortunately, I do not know from which French area Ezra's parents could originate from.

The closest information I could obtain was details of a marriage in 1878 (Paris and Vicinity) of Henri Shamme (maybe Shama!!!!) marrying Marie Casme. I obtained Marie's details but couldn't view Henri's.

Maybe I'm just clutching at straws again!!

Whilst there is no central database this site http://www.genealogie.com/v4/genealo...eme=genealogie has quite alot of records from many of the Departments in France and a general search may throw up some leads.

If I remember the other thread correctly, the Shamas were Jewish. It might be easier to find Synagogue records rather than civil records in France. Have you tried Jewishgen?

I was going to suggest you started in Paris with civil regs because my (wealthy) Shamas had residences in most of the major cities of the world and Paris was certainly one place - look in the posh arrondissements!

As you have already noted I've decided upon a different approach......

I seem to have exhausted all my previous avenues of investigation so after discovering that an Ezra H. Shama was born in Egypt, during 1882, whose parents were of French descent, voila, I thought I'd try going 'down that road'!!

Yes, I've tried Jewishgen but without success. I have also left messages, as a guest, on all the sites where relatives etc are trying to connect with family or friends who have lost touch during Egypt's periods of civil unrest.

The French connection appears a possibilty but who knows???

Yet again I have found another possible 'lead' but would so much appreciate assistance from yourselves ........

Entry no 123996 concerns an Alexandrian marriage authorization 1934-35 for Ezra Shama. However, my problem is being unable to open anything, you can imagine how frustrating this is!!

I know many of you kind people have made suggestions and offered advice when I've previously needed help so I wonder whether anyone can think of a way around this problem.

I thought, and hoped, there would be personal facts concerning Ezra Shama's marriage.

I think there IS information about his marriage but you would need to look at the original documents maybe. (And they are probably going to be in Hebrew)

There is a contact address on the website. Might be worth emailing them and asking how you access the info!
