    Can anyone tell me what obit means

    According to my Genealogy dictionary....

    Obit. A mass for a deceased person celebrated on the anniversay of his death; often mentioned in pre-Reformation wills.

    Does this make any sense to you?

      Thanks Lesley. That might explain why the inscription is at the bottom as Nancy died in 1875 it looks like 1825

        I think the explanation is simpler in the context of a grave inscription - "died".
