Using FTM 2012. There is an illegitimate child whose father is known. I expected to be able to describe the parents as 'Unmarried' but this is not an available option. Either the manual does not cover this or I have not looked in the right place.

Any suggestions?

As complication, she married someone else several years later.

click on the family tab when in family view, then click on the relationship tab. Then click on the spouses name, on the right hand side you should see an option to choose something else other then spouse. I usually use 'partner' for a couple who are not married.

Thanks Sue. It is some comfort to know there is no option 'Unmarried' or 'Not Married' hidden away some where. I find it surprising that such an option is not available. I will probably go for 'Friend' as this suggests a casual relationship.

Thinking about it, 'friend' is a better option than 'partner' when the couple weren't living together as if they were married. I may have to go through mine and change a few :-)
