  • John's War?

Edward Lennon married Cecilia Pray/O' Pray and had 6 children:
    Rosanna- 1864
    Edward- 1867/1935
    John- 1868
    Patrick- 1870/1971 (Avatar)
    Hugh- 1874 (Previous War thread)
    Matthew- 1875.

All were born in in Steveston, Ayreshire, Scotland.

Angelina and I have been speaking in Private Messages for a while now and she did find Hugh's War record for me and now we think that we've found John's, naturally I cannot read the records but Angelina has and noticed that the next of kin is listed as Hugh.

Is this really my John or is it just similarities? I do know that John married Isabella Bradley in 1902 in Bellshill, Lanarkshire and had a son named Hugh himself who was born in 1922 and died in 1971 plus 6 others.

Lennon. Phillips. Thomas. Peacock. Tubridy. Burton.

I am the girl from that town & I'm darn proud of it.

Those records are relatively straightforward to read - you've had some practice, now!

Oh yeah I just don't have any credits, I used them up Ann, so I wished to know for certain before I go to the library and save the images that way.

According to those Army records he was born in 1884. Address for Hugh, brother, is given as Muir of Ord, Rosshire, so this doesn't seem like the right man. If your man was born in 1868 he was getting on a bit to be serving in WW1, although not impossible.

Ahh well, must be another John. After all it is a very common name, There's no Hugh in the generation above but there is a John but that one was born in Armagh, Ireland. It was worth a check anyway.

Hate to throw a spanner in the works but if you are certain that Hugh was born in Stevenston - the RGA/Labour Corps/RDC man whose record we have been looking at on the other thread gives a birthplace of Old Cumnock when he enlisted

1891 census also shows Stevenston as your Hugh's place of birth and Scotlands People confirms - 16th December 1872 in Stevenston

The Hugh we have the service record for says Old Cumnock - pretty consistently - though in 1911 when he is recorded in India - his pob is shown as Kilmarnock

Do you know anything about Patrick - the nok on the service record to hopefully confirm whether or not the army man is yours for sure?
There are a couple of addresses for him in the record -

                61 Hutchinson St
                Dundyvan Road
                Coatbridge
                Lanarkshire

                and an earlier one

                Fore Street
                Kilmarnock
