  • 1851 Census

Would anyone be kind enough please to post details of the household where these 2 boys were living?

Both names as William Davis one was born 1829 and the other 1831. They were living in the registration/parish district of Brentford Middlesex.

    Many thanks
    Ewen

Thank you all for your postings of the 1851 census.

The William Davis born 1829 is now confirmed, not the one I am looking for, by the way it does look like Lettitia Berry William's wife to be was living with the family.
The William Davis born in 1831 is also not the correct one I am looking for as this one was born in Carmarthenshire and not Middlesex.

Thanks again, it looks like it is back to the drawing board for this one.

Frazzled, he was 15 on the 1841 census living with Thomas Davis and his wife Susan (married in 1833) Thomas was aged 25 and Susan 26. They were living in Chiswick Middlesex. Thomas' dad was called William, Thomas had a brother a bit older than him named as William, if that helps. Can't seem to find any Williams that match with what I do know on the 1851 census.

Sorry Ewen having trouble finding Thomas and Susan in the 1841 census, do you have an address or ref.

So if Thomas has an older brother William the William who is with Thomas and Susan in 1841 is not his brother (unless the older William died)

I think I have found Thomas and Susan in 1851, is Thomas' father William living with them?

Thanks for the reply Frazzled, the reference for the 1841 census, if you didn't find it is - 1841 census (HO 107 689/3) Chiswick Middlesex.

I have a baptism of a William Davis born 6 January 1810, baptised Chiswick Church son of William and Elizabeth. I always thought that the William Davis on the 1841 census was a son of Thomas but it looks like Thomas would be too young to be William's dad.

I have a baptism of a John Thomas Davis (note John Davis as the first name) son of William and Elizabeth at Chiswick Church in 1814, born 1814.

Do you think you could post details please of the census information you have from the 1851 census with Thomas and Susan?

                  Thank you
                  Ewen

you have to be really careful when looking at the 1841 census, it does not give relationships, and also the ages of anyone over the age of 15 were usually rounded down to the nearest 5 years. For example, someone who was actually 24 years would have their age listed as 20, and someone who was actually 27 years old would have their age listed as 25.
