  • Help with monitor please!

I dont know what Ive done but somehow the picture is too wide for the monitor on my laptop. I mean on the right hand side the up and down slider is gone out of sight, so Im having to use the arrows on the keyboard to scroll up and down. Ive tried dragging the picture but no luck. Ive looked at the control panel for help but it only tells you how to make type bigger or smaller or resolution. So thats no help. It can only be something simple but its beyond me. Any help please?

This happened to me the other day too. Someone told me to go to the bottom right hand corner of the screen where it has got the percentage of your zoom. I experimented and none of them were quite right so I clicked on the Custom button and chose 135% and that was right for my screen.

    Hope it works for you

Try pressing Esc. Sometimes it works or Ctrl and - at the same time. Try it once, if it makes the writing smaller but not the sides then I can't help you sorry.

What is the make and model of the laptop? And what is the screen resolution set to, both earlier and now?

Hi dave , its a Samsung RV511 and the resolution was 1366 x 768. In fact Ive just turned off, gone out to do some work and Ive checked and its back to that again now but Ive still got small type on here? The "picture" of this page has a blue margin about half inch wide either side now but I have got the page slider thing on the right hand side now.

Joanne, Ive just tried that and nothing happened.

On my desk top monitor you have buttons to move the picture either way but on this laptop there is nothing like that?

1366 x 768 is the correct resolution for your screen.

Any chance you can take a photo of the screen, and post it?

Those controls only apply to the analog VGA connections - the one with the blue plug...

Laptops use a digital connection, which mean they don't require those controls as it is supposed to be all automatic.

Thanks so much everyone. I do seem to have sorted it now - gawd knows how, I think it was switch it off, go away and come back again. I still have tiny print on here but ok elsewhere on the net! I will see if I can just change it on here now.

Hmm, no its still tiny. It must be easy surely to change. Im getting so dopey in my old age - 63 on Monday!! Cant believe it. I will go on trying to do it.

Heather, to change your font on FTF, go down to the bottom left of page.
You should see a drop down menu - just choose one of the large font (LF) skins.
If you find that it doesn't hold, that is you need to do it each time you log in, then do it through SETTINGS (top right of page) -> GENERAL SETTINGS (in column left hand side of page) -> MISCELLANEOUS OPTIONS - select chosen Forum Skin

Well, I did as you said Elaine thanks, but the text still seems small - may be it was small before and its just me.

I have noticed if I use Google the text is much bigger than it is on IE ? no idea why ? maybe you could try that, or go to view the change the text size.

IE has its own default text size

Google have created the page that you use and therfore can set their own default text size for that page in the code that makes it, hence the size difference
