  • Looks like 'I cas Prematurity p.m.' ??

I've just received the death cert through the post of my dad's sister who died only 3 days old in 1934.
The cause of death reads, I think, as I cas Prematurity p.m.
Can anyone shed any light on the I cas bit?

Obviously she was premature, by how much I don't know. Could p.m. stand for post mortem?

Not urgent or necessary, I just wondered if anyone had any ideas.

    Thanks in advance.

is there any chance that you could scan/photograph the bit you are unsure of and post it on here for us to see? it might be that the PM means 'after midday' as in Post meridian..

I think if the person hadn't seen a doctor within 14 days prior to death then there would be a Post mortem, but in this case as it is a child, I am not sure.

I'll get onto a photo later tonight, my husband has a better phone for pics than me - thanks Julie.

              I think it says

              I(a) Prematurity

I have several where there is more than one cause of death and they are listed like this although I've not seen one where there is just one cause. Other ways of listing have been 1(a), 1(b) and 1(i), 1(ii) etc

I think the PM does relate to post mortem

yep I agree with Elaine & Jackie and looking at when a Post Mortem is needed if a child dies suddenly, then there would have been a PM.

I have seen this (1 (a) Prematurity) before....i agree with Jackie that the PM means Post Mortem.

Yes it says 1(a) prematurity and then pm for post mortem when presumably further cause of death may be discovered hence 1(a)
