  • Trying to find Hugh Shanahan

My great, great grandfather James Shanahan was born in Ireland about 1835 in Newry (all this information is from his military records) on his marriage certificate he puts his father's name down as Hugh Shanahan. James' son Thomas Shanahan writes home to his wife from France during WW1 and information about him is published in the local catholic paper and it says his father and grandfather were both in the army. I have a copy of James' army records but can't find his father, Hugh's. Any suggestions where I might find this?

    There's this one on FindMyPast

SHANNAGHAN Hugh 1802 Phillipstown, Kings (Offaly) WO97 Chelsea

Might be difficult to establish whether it's the right man, though, as family members won't be mentioned.

Worth looking at the Army baptisms on FMP too, to see if the birth of James is there, as Fathers Regiment will be given.
