  • Electoral Roll - Serving in Army

    Hi

Sorry another electoral question! If a man was away serving in the army 1914-1918 would his name remain on the electoral roll where this wife and family lived or what would happen? Does anyone know?

    Thank you

There were Absent Voters Lists where men serving would be listed, often with Regiment and Regimental Number details. Survival of these is patchy, though. Worth checking with the local Archives/Local Studies Library to see if any are held for the area you're interested in.

Bear in mind that not ALL men had the vote until the reform act of 1918. Before that it was 2 out 3 and no women.
