  • A challenge for you

Albert Ernest Hiles is born in June Quarter 1879 in Cowley, Oxfordshire, parents Edward Frederick and Mary Jane, nee Bayliss. In 1881 census, he is with parents in Coulsdon, entered as Earnest, father as Frederic and mother as Jane http://search.ancestry.co.uk/iexec?h...=&pid=21479755.

By 1891 they have moved to Cambridge, By this time Frederick has changed the family name to Hills, and he is down as Ernest http://search.ancestry.co.uk/iexec?h...=&pid=24253954

I cannot find any trace of Albert Ernest after 1891, can anyone else? I know one of his sisters kept the surname of Hiles, but I am having no luck using any combination of names!

Hi Edna, that Ernest is Ernest Arthur Hiles, who is the cousin of Albert Ernest. All the Hiles in Oxford are related, and I think I have managed to track most of them down!

      Thanks for looking.

We must have cross-posted Val! Yes, that's the same one that Edna found. I do wish they had kept the name Hiles as it is easier to search for, but I think Albert Ernest must have gone with Hills.
