  • families are related

    hi,

it has come to my attention today via an email off a living relative i didnt know, that my mums family and my dads family were related in the 1830's.

my mums family are from the Denver area of Norfolk and the suname of Crockford (her grandmother was a crockford). My dads family came from ireland to west rainton (durham) and then down to peterborough. HOWEVER, the brother of my dads mum, married Ethel Fryatt of denver norfolk, her grandmother was Ann Crockford, the sister of my mums great grandad Thomas Crockford.

Does this mean that they are only related by marriage? i have got myself in a twist and struggling to get my head round it. i'm trying to get my family tree maker working as that has the relationship thing on it.

thanks for any answers. sorry if this isnt the right place etc.

I'll move it over to the Research Forum for you Amy - hopefully someone will be able to work out the relationship!

Yes, they're only related by marriage, not blood relations.

However, if Ethel and her husband had any children, they'd be your father's first cousins and your mother's 3rd cousins.
