If anyone has time – I would appreciate help with my Dobson family. Be warned they are difficult to track.
William Dobson and Hannah Smith married 24 Nov 1838 Pickering (I have the certificate). They went on to have 8 Children – Robert born 1839, Margaret Ann born 1841, Mary born 1843, William born 1844, Thomas born 1847 Mary born 1849, Hannah born 1853 and Margaret Ann born 1856
In 1841 and 1851 ever one is where they should be living together in Pickering as a family – the only exception is Mary born 1843 who I presume died although I cannot find a death registration or burial for her. For reference William was born in 1809 and Hannah was born in 1814 – William was a Shoe Maker
In 1861 the family have moved to Scarborough – the number of children living with the parents has decreased to 4. Margaret Ann born 1843 and William born 1844 are missing did they die? Thomas born 1847 is also missing but I have a possible sighting for him on the 1881 census so the jury is still out on Thomas.
1871 – This is when it all gets messy. William is living with his youngest daughter (Margaret Ann) in Scarborough. I presume Hannah (his wife) died but I cannot find a suitable death for Hannah. Mary born 1849 is fine – she was my 2x great grandmother and was a servant in Scarborough and married in the July of 1871. Thomas, I think, reappears in Scarborough in Oxford Street (the same street where his father and sister are living).
1881 William is living at 1, Hunters Balcony, Scarborough. His daughter Margaret Ann is living in Service and married later that year so she is no problem. This is the last sighting of William and there does not seem to be an age related death for William – the best fit is one for William Dobson 2nd q 1887 but this gives his age of birth as 1822 – 11 years after William’s birth.
To resume I would like to know what happened to Robert born 1839, Margaret Ann born 1841, Mary born 1843, William born 1844, Thomas born 1847 and Hannah born 1853 and kill off their parents!!
Many thanks to any one who even thinks of tacking this one!!
