Trying to plug gaps between people with the same surname isn't going to help you find the people that really belong in your tree (which is another way of saying what Kyle has said). The only sure way is backwards step by step. Are you sure that Robert and Jane belong in your tree, or is that just guesswork also?Uncle John - Passed away March 2020

What resources have you used to look for the name in that area? The IGI, for example, and FreeREG, are both very helpful, but if you're relying on transcriptions, FELL is a name ripe for misinterpretation in script.
F gets read as T, J, S, even P... depending on the handwriting.
L gets read as S, J, and so on.
I have a SANSBURY that's transcribed in FamilySearch's records as LANSBURY, for example.
When you get that far back, the script is so different that a lower-case e can easily be mistaken for an o.
It's obviously worth having a look to see if there's a connection when the name and place is the same, but it's not worth losing hours of research time if you can't get back step by step.
ChristineResearching: BENNETT (Leics/Birmingham-ish) - incl. Leonard BENNETT in Detroit & Florida ; WARR/WOR, STRATFORD & GARDNER/GARNAR (Oxon); CHRISTMAS, RUSSELL, PAFOOT/PAFFORD (Hants); BIGWOOD, HAYLER/HAILOR (Sussex); LANCASTER (Beds, Berks, Wilts) - plus - COCKS (Spitalfields, Liverpool, Plymouth); RUSE/ROWSE, TREMEER, WADLIN(G)/WADLETON (Devonport, E Cornwall); GOULD (S Devon); CHAPMAN, HALL/HOLE, HORN (N Devon); BARRON, SCANTLEBURY (Mevagissey)...
