  • William John Hamilton Pote marriage help

    Hiya all

William John H Pote married in 1904 in Walsall Staffordshire.
I'm not sure which lady he married. It was either Clara Mabel Stafford or Dorothy Fisher.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

        Thank you both very much.

Is there a way to determine which person married which on freebmd?

          Not pre 1912, Danny.

No, the names on the transcription are usually in alphabetical order, rather than pairing of spouses.
You can search birth registrations on free BMD using surname and mother's maiden name - but only for births after Sept 1911 - so if you are looking at marriages just pre 1911 then you can use that to search if there were any children born - trial and error using one male surname against one female surname. BUT of course, it's not foolproof!

Right you are. I use Google a lot but it's hit and miss really.

              Thank you both.

Some of the counties on the UKBMD site are producing transcriptions which show spouses - and also MMN for birth registrations - so always worth checking on those.
