    ordering wills from york

in googling the yorks probate registry, i see that leeds is now handling these orders. i have to pay around $30 per cheque, plus the amount of money the wills cost, so i was hoping to order a bunch at once to make it worth spending $30. the form to fill out is for one will/probate, can you just type up a list of wills you want with the relevant details saying how many copies you want, and who to send them to along with a cheque? or would you have to fill out the individual forms?

Why not email Leeds and ask them, explaining your problem.

If you are querying whether you can send one cheque to cover multiple applications, then the answer is yes. A while ago I order 6 wills but only sent the one cheque for payment - although I did fill out the required form for each application.

I have done the same with my local Probate Office but just sent a letter with wills required listed giving the date of death and date of probate with location and that seemed to be acceptable too.

thanx elaine, i knew you could send one cheque, but was wondering about the application forms. thanx margaret, that's what i wanted to know. am not sure leeds would accept that, but it would be easiest. i will email and ask them.

Kyle, whenever I buy wills I just write a letter and copy the details directly from the Probate Calendar into it! Never filled in a form.

The postal service for wills seems to be concentrated at Leeds now. It calls itself "Postal Searches and Copies"at Leeds Probate Registry.

if the wills are from York you might be better contacting the library at the University. CAnt remember the name of hand but I went thre a few years ago and did some wonderful searches but none were my relatives. However I did do a look up for somebody who had a relation in an institution and was able to get a description of her and her illness.
