What's the best way to preserve a painting ?

Hi, I have been given an original painting of my Nan painted from a photo around fifty
years ago.
It's been done on paper used for such paintings.
What is the best way to keep this, if I frame it and put it up on the wall will it deteriorate ?

Be sure to hang it away from strong light to avoid fading. I have watercolours by my uncle and they are on walls that never get direct sun,

Thanks Jill, Yep have it in our back romm which gets minimal light and no direct light at all.
