- Open Defender.
- Click the Tools button, and then click Software Explorer.
- In the Category box, click Startup Programs.
- Select the program that you want to prevent from running, and then click Disable.
- Click Yes to confirm that you want to stop that program from running.
- Repeat steps 4 and 5 for every program you want stop from running.

thats interesting Babs didnt know you could do it through Defender? I dont use that as I installed Microsoft windows essentials and you aren't supposed to use that too, but this is for a friend so hopefully he does use it.

You can also go to Start > Run and type msconfig then click on OK. Then uncheck Yahoo messenger on the Startup tab and Apply.
