B1c - Boy 1st class
Ord - Ordinary Seaman
AB - Able seaman
All boy seamen who hadn’t attained the rate of Boy 1st Class by 17 yrs 6 mths were discharged. Boys 1st Class, who didn’t opt to leave the Navy at 18, signed on for a period of Continuous Service [start of pensionable service] and were given the rank of Ordinary Seaman.
