Just wondering whether this is the right George Wilson. He is a picture frame maker in the 1881 census (only George W) and in the 1891 census he is shown as a cooper. Do people think that this is a reasonable leap, or am I barking totally up the wrong tree? The age is about right and he is still in Myton (part of Hull district).
Why not? people change jobs all the time.
Wish I had a couple of coopers instead of Ag Labs.
They both work with wood, so I suppose it's possible.

PLEASE SCAN AT 300-600 DPI FOR RESTORATION PURPOSES. THANK YOU!
yes I would have thought it possible. As Wendy says, both work in wood.

does he have other members of his family with him Lorraine, as a checkpoint?

Sadly not, his mother seems to have died. I suppose the thing to do, is to see whether I can find his brother (my great grandfather) in 1891, though he married in Q3 that year.
Haven't been able to find an entry for Arthur Wilson for 1891.

I would say the change of job is unlikely but not impossible. Cooper to wheelwright is much more likely as a career change.

It would appear that George must have left the family home sometime after 1881. Did he marry? One thing I have noticed is that there is no trace of Arthur for 1891 but he had to have surfaced to get married. Where was he?
