    Question Which one to choose?

Hubby has said he would pay for a years sub as a mother's day present.

A few weeks ago I have cancelled my Ancestry after about 3 years of having it, mainly because of cost, but can use it until the 14th April when it runs out. But then I thought what about FMP instead, have looked at both site and now I don't know which one to choose .

    Do I........................

1 Stick with Ancestry, not that I am finding anything new of late, but know how to use it, have my tree on there etc etc

    or

2 Try FMP, which seems to have records that Ancestry doesn't, but its a site I've not used before.

So am now more confused than I normal am

    Someone please help!!

    Chrissie.

Not sure I can really help you as you are really the only one to make the final choice however I will try!

I am on FMP because I find it the best for English records ie

Parish Records are much better than Ancestry particularly now they have obtained all Family History Society Parish Records.

Outgoing passenger lists suits me as I have more going out than coming in.

BMD Index is easy to use

Most of the census are on FMP but the rest of 1901 and 1851 census will be online by the end of the year as will the 1911 Census and nobody else will have 1911 for the foreseeable future, although the cost of sub will increase to accommodate the 1911 cvensus.

You can use Ancestry at your local library

I find that Ancestry have many odd records like flax growers in Ireland which I find useless.

    Thanks Janet

I have got to the stage where parish records are needed, so thats good to know.

Passengers list would also be good to have too.

and if the 1911 census would be include at some point during the year would be a real bonus.

    Thank you

Chrissy, in case you havenīt already found it, you can see a list of the sort of Parish REgisters included on FMP
Help and Advice | Knowledge Base | Parish Records at findmypast.com

    - just keep scrolling down the page for a more detailed listing.

If you have London rellies then don't forget that ancestry is going to start putting the LMA records online soon though.

I did forget to say that where Ancestry is good is in the First W War Soldiers Records but I have found most of the ones I want with the free access to Ancestry which does appear to have dried up lately! But any I find in future I shall just go to my local library.

    One other question

If I put my tree onto FMP, will it, like Ancestry and GR, let me know if any records may contain info that I may need (ie like hints on Ancestry and hot matches on GR)

Oh has cooked me dinner, I will be back

They may be considering that and I am in the process of putting my tree on to FMP as it is supposed to be a more secure site for online trees than any other but they have not got this far as yet.
