Don't believe all you read in other people's trees

Some years ago I was sent a large GEDCOM by a relatively close rellie (second cousin once removed) and made the mistake of accepting it at face value and merging it into my main tree. A high proportion of it has checked out over the years, but it did include an unproven branch who went on the Mormon Trek and I have had to prune several other bits which I just couldn't corroborate. This family name is widespread and I have had many other contacts via GR. Some have been impeccably researched over many years; others are recycled surmises which have been in the public domain for a long time.

I have a contact who claims to have gone back to Noah, she sent me her tree and sure enough there he was, she does have some gaps but she is not deterred
