    OK, I get what you mean now. By the way, the example I quoted above was an illegitimate child. Poor lamb. she is with her mother's sister in 1861 and her mother's aged parents in 1871 (Mother is working in service hundreds of miles away). She had an older brother, who was similarly fobbed off onto siblings/grandparents, and I don't know if she ever lived with him.

    I lose sight of her later on - if she'd only used her middle name Timbers (father was Mr Timbers) she'd be much easier to track down.
