Hi Chrissie
My first thought for the surname of Lig? was Benet although the T is not crossed. While you have been at the record office today I have been following through some of the other Heap/s who may be related and an Alfred born 1836/1838 gave his birthplace as Snelson/Snelston in 2 census' and a John born 1839/40/41 gave his birthplace as Ashbourn/Snelson. I have looked on the IGI for a baptism for Alfred, John & Elias but nothing shows up. I wonder if we can trace the informant of Lig? death?

Hi Moggie - Since I got home I have been searching and searching for the Heaps - Heap family on 1841/1851 and Nicholas on 1861 and 1871 (he seems to have married in 1864 in Belper and died there in 1886.
The Mary Ottewell that was tending Lignavitre and registered her death in Heage I believe is here in - Class: RG9; Piece: 2513; Folio: 10; Page: 14; GSU roll: 542982. I have no idea why she was nursing her unless it was to keep her away from the children. Though surely she wouldn't have wanted smallpox either??
My hubby is begging me to go and sit with him to watch the TV and as he has been brilliant today taking me to Matlock and waiting patiently for me I must go. It will be back to the search tomorrow
Thank you so much for taking an interest and trying to help - I really appreciate it.
Oh, by the way, I found out that Laughton en le Morthen comes under Rotherham. Still no sign of the ellusive Millicent though![]()

Hi Chrissie
The marriage entry gives very little info just "were married". I would have expected at least that it would have given their status i.e bachelor/spinster & if they were "of the parish" or from elsewhere.
The 2 baptisms 15 years apart gave their "abode" as Snelson/Snelston so I wonder if this was where they returned to for the winter months. I can't imagine that they travelled to Baslow & Whitwell just to have a child baptised.Too far to travel in those days.
I have to go out today, promised d i l that I would help clear up now that the builders have left. Not looking forward to it I must admit. Will check back tonight to see if you have found anything interesting. Good luck.
Moggie
Blimey Moggie - you have given me food for thought there. I hadn't realised that they were living in Snelston both times, even though they were baptised in different places. The odd thing is that there is a baptism for another son George that I couldn't get because he was baptised in LINCOLN on 3rd May 1840 (in between the other two). I wish I could get to Lincoln to see that one - I wonder where they were living then.
I think I will put up a separate thread to see what others think about Lignavitre surname.
Enjoy your day![]()

Hi Chrissie
I see on the other thread that other people think the surname may be Benet.
I am wondering if Snelston was their place of settlement. They married there as well as giving it as their "abode" for the 2 baptisms. Have a look at this site it is an ongoing project so I don't know if there are more removal orders etc to be added. Might be worth sending an e mail to the site owner. I've done my good deed for the day and I'm absolutely shattered so going to watch the soaps.
