Hi
I have been doing a bit of detective work re the incoming passenger lists on ancestry and the first mention of D B S against a passenger's name is in 1891.
These all seem to apply to crew members of ships. Passenger lists fall into two categories either British passengers or Alien passengers and crew members who are of German, Swedish, Russian, Portuguese origin still have D B S against their names.
