royal navy Vs merchant navy

well i sent an email to portsmouth dockyard, who passed it to the library and research center. who sent me an email back.

from the places and dates alone they cant me - as both roal and merchant where in them! but they did ask for a copy of the photos. which i sent to them and they believe that the hat is Royal Navy - officers cap.

they have advised me to send off for his records...... only problem is 1. i dont know if he is still alive, 2. i dont know if his wife is still alive 3. i dont know if his daughter is still alive 4. i dont know if he had more than 1 child and if so if they are alive.

Send off the request Amy and let them decide if you can have the records. If there is anything harmful they will probably deny the request. besides they may know if he has died. I can get my Grandad's Army records once he dies and I think anyone can. I'm trying to convinve him to order them now as they are free for him and I believe 30 pounds for me to order later.
