Thread: Any ideas for tracing someone in 1901 ???

  1. #21
hi Merry and Jess and thanks a lot
Alexander is the one I found last week working in a pub and being 5 years older than he really was on the 1901 census.
Have got his marriage cert and confirmed its him
The only two to go to Canada as far as we know were Rose and Daisy in 1900
I really would love to tie this family up and get on to something else but I feel compelled to find all I can about them

    I suppose I could risk £7 ????
Could you reference check her father's name?? (or his first name, if there's a problem over Muller/Miller) At least the name Adam wasn't too commonplace

yes I could Merry I just might chance it as its a bit of a coincidence isnt it ???????????
I was well chuffed with myself over Alexanders cert as I did not know the two witnesses so looked for who was living at the address they gave on it and found one of them was at that address with his family and was a Publican, which made sense and then with a bit of research found the other one also worked in a pub .
Odd thing is they were not living there then but must have moved in after the marriage.
Thanks for al your help you and everybody else
I know I keep disappearing but Tom is home all day and it gets awkward staying around.

I have just re-read what Nell has said is that right ?? I thought the census records recorded who was at that property on that given day not neccessarily at night ???or am I wrong ???
As I am wondering why this lady is not recorded ,as far as I can tell anywhere with her Husband ???

    Quotes from Ancestry:

The 1901 Census for England was taken on the night of 31 March 1901.

Enumeration forms were distributed to all households a couple of days before census night and the complete forms were collected the next day. All responses were to reflect the individual's status as of 31 March 1901 for all individuals who had spent the night in the house. People who were traveling or living abroad were enumerated at the location where they spent the night on census night.

You could try the Sussex OPC / FHG to see if they have the marriage info.

If you find yourself going to earlier records, MULLER looks rather like MUELLER (where UE, is also shown as U with umlaut) - the most common German name. Might be worth holding in the back of the mind.

Researching: BENNETT (Leics/Birmingham-ish) - incl. Leonard BENNETT in Detroit & Florida ; WARR/WOR, STRATFORD & GARDNER/GARNAR (Oxon); CHRISTMAS, RUSSELL, PAFOOT/PAFFORD (Hants); BIGWOOD, HAYLER/HAILOR (Sussex); LANCASTER (Beds, Berks, Wilts) - plus - COCKS (Spitalfields, Liverpool, Plymouth); RUSE/ROWSE, TREMEER, WADLIN(G)/WADLETON (Devonport, E Cornwall); GOULD (S Devon); CHAPMAN, HALL/HOLE, HORN (N Devon); BARRON, SCANTLEBURY (Mevagissey)...

Are you just showing off your knowledge or did you watch Eggheads the other day?

thats what I thought Merry so if say she was a Housekeeper or something she could have lived in ,so would appear on that census and not neccesssarily with her husband ????
Thanks for that idea Christine will do.
I know its either Muller or Miller thats all they ever used so far ., unless ??????????????

But even if she was a housekeeper live-in (which I think unlikely) she'd still appear as Elizabeth Stanley M with birth details.
