Chrissy, I don't use FTM and I don't have a tree on Ancestry, so I am not sure what you need to do...that's why I backed away.

However, with Paf, if I have a gedcom, I need to open a new file and then and the import function is listed under "File". Is it not the same with FTM?

Sorry that I can't be of more help.

If you want to load it into FTM, then try right-clicking on the GEDCOM file, and choose "Open With" then select Family Tree Maker as the program to use.

    Hi Chrissy,
First of all I know some people encounter problems when downloading their gedcom files from Ancestry and this is often because there are some errors in the files, for example incorrect date formats. For some reason this can screw up a gedcom file, so that when you try to upload it into our names database it doesn't like it.

The only way to get round it is to open it first in a family history program, such as Family Tree Maker, which will then remove any data errors you might have. As Kate says, right click on your file and select open in FTM.

If you need any help then send me a pm and I will talk you through it.
