Hello,
I wonder whether you would be kind enough to check registers for the following for CONROY / CONNERY baptism and marriage please?
We have the dates but would like to know if the registers have anymore detail.
The transcription spelling varies on each online site we have viewed; CONROY, CONNERY, COMREY etc.
Mary Anne Lavina CONNERY
Baptised 13th October 1822 ALVERSTOKE, HAMPSHIRE - Supposedly born 1801
Parents Thomas & Alice
(LDS Batch number: C073573)
Mary Anne Lavina CONNERY (CONROY)
Married 10th January 1825 ALVERSTOKE, HAMPSHIRE
James CAMPBELL
Was wondering if it was possible to get copies of a christening for a James Montgomary June 1828 in Alverstoke and any other siblings if possible. I think James' parents were John & Sarah Montgomary but when I looked on the LDS website Sarah was coming up as 'Sally', not sure if Sarah & Sally are the same person??? Any help with this would be greatly appreciated , thanks in advance.

Thank you.
If you're specialising in that name in that area, then you may wish to add this one, from my OH's tree:
m2: 2 Feb 1843, Alverstoke, Licence. Ann WHITEHEAD, W, of Full Age; d/o James SANSBURY, gardener. John CONNARY, b, of Full Age, mariner; s/o Wm Connary, carpenter. both resdt Alverstoke. (b c 1800) [M073578]
Witn: John DORMER (JD), Elizabeth DORMER (X) [PR p37#73]
It's also worth noting that Ann's surname, SANSBURY, comes in lots of different versions, too - with/out an "i", with/out double-r, &c.
Christine
Researching: BENNETT (Leics/Birmingham-ish) - incl. Leonard BENNETT in Detroit & Florida ; WARR/WOR, STRATFORD & GARDNER/GARNAR (Oxon); CHRISTMAS, RUSSELL, PAFOOT/PAFFORD (Hants); BIGWOOD, HAYLER/HAILOR (Sussex); LANCASTER (Beds, Berks, Wilts) - plus - COCKS (Spitalfields, Liverpool, Plymouth); RUSE/ROWSE, TREMEER, WADLIN(G)/WADLETON (Devonport, E Cornwall); GOULD (S Devon); CHAPMAN, HALL/HOLE, HORN (N Devon); BARRON, SCANTLEBURY (Mevagissey)...
In the left hand column it states Rec. into the Congregation. Mary Anne Lavina Connery d/o Thomas and Alice born 31/5/1801. Bptism was 13/10/1822 like you quoted.
Marriage of above.
James Campbell Bach. of this Parish married Mary Ann Lavinia Connery Sp. by Licence on 10/1/1825 with the consent of James Lear.
Witness were James Lear and the other one looks like Charlotte? but cannot read the surname. Sorry about that.
Hello Lesley,
Thank you so much for your prompt reply, it is very much appreciated.
With your experience and knowledge, are you able to advise:
You stated: In the left hand column it states "Received into the Congregation". Would that have been the term used for all baptisms or could it be she was born elsewhere and received into the new parish?
I am assuming Mary Anne CONNERY who was baptised 1822 is the same lady married to James CAMPBELL 1825, being an adult, why would she require the consent of James LEAR, would that be a legal reason, (he was her gauardian or something)?
We have a Mary Anne Lavina CAMPBELL married in AUSTRALIA, Mary Anne Lavina CAMPBELL's marriage certificate states she born DEVONSHIRE, was 23 when she married April 1856. Father: James CAMPBELL, sailor H.M.S. Mother: Mary Anne CONROY.
Researchers who have now passed on had noted Mary Anne Lavina CAMPBELL was born STONEHAM, some noted STONEHOUSE.
Am I correct that STONEHAM is HAMPSHIRE and STONEHOUSE is DEVON?
Mary Anne Lavina CAMPBELL's marriage age (from the certificate) has her 23 years old - born 1833, her death certificate has her 78 in 1906 so born 1828.
We are still trying to obtain some of her children's birth and marriage certificates hoping information about Mary Anne Lavinia's exact birth place and age may have been recorded.
Possibly with accents the spoken word of CONNERY may sound like (CONREY) CONROY.

Caddie
Am I correct that STONEHAM is HAMPSHIRE and STONEHOUSE is DEVON?
If you use something like Google &/or Google Maps, you'll find that "Stoneham" is pretty much a part of Southampton - so, yes, it's in Hampshire.
And similarly, (East) Stonehouse is one of the "Three Towns" which, with Devonport and Plymouth, were blended in 1914 into one entity. Devonport includes the historical naval port, of Plymouth... it is, indeed, (only just) in Devon... not quite in Cornwall. Stoke Damerel and Morice Town were also areas of Devonport, and East Stonehouse would be hard to separate from Devonport these days.
Hello Lesley,
My apologies, I forgot to ask, do you recall at which church these CONNERY / CAMPBELL events took place?
Regards,
Caddie
Both the records were from St.Marys Church in Alverstoke.
With regard to the piece in the column of the Baptism saying 'Received in to the Congregation' I really don't know what it means. I assumed, as she was an adult it was her choice to join that church were as a baptism as a baby meant they weren't given a choice! Maybe you could post the question on the Research Board. I am sure someone will have the correct answer! I am no expert by any means!!
Also, I don't know if you have seen Christine in Herts other post on the 15th re another Connary from Alverstoke which may be of interest to you.
Also, as a matter of interest I have also seen on Family Search the name spelt Connerree!! Also from Alverstoke! Maybe worth looking at!

Thank you Christine, Your assistance is much appreciated. I have the feeling it "may" be STONEHOUSE, her marriage cert. states DEVONSHIRE born, it just doesn't tell us where in DEVONSHIRE, I don't suppose she thought someone would care 156 years later.
Hello Lesley,
Thank you for your reply relating to my CONNERY / CAMPBELL query.
I wondered if you would be kind enough to check a few more entries for me please? Only if you have the time.
I found two marriages, Alice CONNERY to Robert LINGWOOD, then a later one for an Alice LINGWOOD to Peter FITZGERALD.
There is an 1826 burial for a Peter FITZGERALD and an 1837 burial for an Alice LINGWOOD, a long shot, but I wondered if Alice's husband Peter FITZGERALD passed away not long after they married she may have reverted back to the LINGWOOD name.
I don't wish to push my luck too far so if it would be possible for you to check the CONNERY / LINGWOOD marriage and the Alice LINGWOOD burial, it would be very much appreciated.
Are images available for these entries please?
Thank you.
Alice CONNERY married Robert LINGWOOD 26th October 1814 ALVERSTOKE, HAMPSHIRE (LDS Batch number: M073576)
Alice LINGWOOD Buried 10th April 1837 GOSPORT, HAMPSHIRE (LDS Batch number: I040821)
Alice LINGWOOD married Peter FITZGERALD 8th March 1825 ALVERSTOKE, HAMPSHIRE (LDS Batch number: M073577)
Peter FITZGERALD buried 8th April 1826 GOSPORT, HAMPSHIRE (LDS Batch number: I040862)
Thanks again for the Montgomery baptism!! Was wondering if you would be able to do a couple more lookups for me whenever you're down at the Study Centre next? A John Montgomery baptised 1821 Alverstoke (parents John & Sarah) and a Sally Montgomery 1823 Alverstoke (parents John & Sally). Stll looking for a marriage for John & Sarah and was wondering if you would be able to get me a copy of this also when I find a "date".
