    Parish Records

can anyone tell me what the letter "p" in the left hand margin of christening records means

It depends on the period. It can mean private, for privately (ie at home) baptised.

Or it can mean pauper - in the period when taxes were collected on baptisms and the vicar had to justify handing over less money. Paupers were exempt.

    Hi, Welcome to the forum

I think it means Pauper, (but not 100% sure).

Thanks for info. In this case it probably means at home as he died soon after. Thanks again
