    Norfolk Lunatic Asylum

Notes of admissions, treatments & discharges 1814-1816 and 1834:-

Summary details of patients at Norfolk Lunatic Asylum

May be of use to someone - makes interesting reading in any event

eg Mary Groom aged 62 was prescribed "1/2 pint port wine/ day + 30 drops/twice per day" and poor John Long pulled out his left eye and was prescribed leeches

Very interesting reading. My 3 x gt grandaunt Patience Dunt is there, and another Dunt female was also in this asylum at one time. Not sure if there was a genetic tendency to insanity, or if it was just a way of getting rid of troublesome unmarried females.

My guess is she was jilted by fiance? A fascinating story behind all these inmates' sad entries, I'm sure.
