Hi All,
I am so grateful for all this help ................ you have no idea how confused I am!
The Military Record (of service in Canada only) I do have - it is on the father's part of the Tree - he was also James Webster Rowland - I imagine I have that confused also ...............fathers dob: 1788 Stamford, St. George, Lincs - m - Mary Aldridge on 27.11.1811 in Northamptonshire (I don't have a source for that) BUT it was probably Stamford Baron which comes under N'Hants. I have a feeling this chap has been married to 3 Marys (it may have only been 2) his mother was a Mary also (I am totally "Mary'd out". I just can't get my head around this to type it all out!
I remember researching James the elder at Stamford Library Record Dept but I cannot find the photocopying I did there although I am pretty sure I put all on the Tree.
I have a Free BMD death for James b 1832 - 1898 - Vol 1 7b p261 Reg. Dist. Southwell - inferred county: Notts. I am not at all sure that is correct - in fact I am sure it is not.
Before I make everyone as confused as I am myself I am going to put the names on with dob/marriage/death that I have for these Rowlands and their Marys):
Samuel James Rowland b 1760 Stamford St. George/baptised 22.8.1760 Stamford All Saints. No dod. Occ: Tailor
m
Mary Reed 17 April 1786 at Stamford St. George - marriage Free Reg (father not named) no. 212 File no. 15918
2 children:
James Webster Rowland 1788 - 1788
James Webster Rowland 1788 - 1864 - m Mary Aldridge 27.11.1811 Bleasby, Notts
After Mary Reed died James b 1760 re-married to Sarah Lyon 19.10.1788 St. Johns, Stamford, Lincs (rather swiftly it appears). - 2 children:
James Rowland b 4.10.1789 St. John, Stamford, Lincs
1861 census shows him living at Manorly Lane, Stamford All Saints, Lincs age 73
Samuel Rowland b 1791 Stamford St. John s/o Samuel and Sarah Rowland - 1841 census says he was born in Nottinghamshire (below)
James Webster Rowland - b 1831 Terrington, Donington-in-Holland, Lincs and possibly baptised there
I won't put any more on now as it is becoming obvious that some of the above is incorrect - as you can see, I am in dire straits!
Very Grateful for all help, Sue
