  • Irish help please

According to 1911 census Annie Andrews b c1858 (53) was born in Co Fermanagh.

She states she's been married to James Andrews for 16 years (1895?) and according to her sons birth certificate her maiden name was Norman.

So why can I find no-one with surname Norman in Co Fermanagh? or am I looking on the wrong site.

No marriage in Ireland or England for Andrews and Norman.

Keep in mind that the records on the IFHF sites are far from complete. This link shows what they have online for Fermanagh: Irish World Heritage Centre - Online Searching of Irish ancestral and genealogy records (Births, Deaths, Marriages) for Co. Fermanagh

There are a few Normans mentioned in the Wills Calendars and the Ulster Covenant signees at Search the archives | Public Record Office of Northern Ireland
None from Fermanagh though, but a few from the neighbouring county of Donegal.

Thanks but most are the christian name Norman and I can't see anything for any Norman familes in Co Fermanagh.

Her granddaughter thinks she was from Dungannon but that's not in Fermanagh- so am still stuck.

Did hope the 1911 would solve a brick wall but apparently not!!!

I did say there weren't any from Fermanagh, but that there were a few in neighbouring Donegal (I searched for Norman as a surname only).

Maybe you could try some mailing lists and message boards, such as the one on this site: Clogher Historical Society: The history of Fermanagh, Monaghan, South Tyrone, South Donegal

              Thanks Sarah -

As I couldn't see any Normans in Fermanagh I was beginning to wonder if she'd made it up (either her maiden name or where she was from) - wish I could find her marriage (if she did marry!!!) though its definitely states on her death certificate the widow of James Andrews. !!!!! and she's with him in the 1901 census.

So they were in England by the 1901 census? So they might have married in England, but I just checked FreeBMD and, as you said above, there don't appear to be any Andrews-Norman marriages in England around the right period.

I checked Emerald Ancestors and can't find anything there either, but I think most of their records come from the IGI anyway, and the IGI doesn't have much for Ireland.

A glimmer of hope maybe - According to FamilySearch.org - Indexing the indexing of Irish BMDs has been completed, and they should at some stage be made available through Family Search (or FamilySearch.org - Indexing), but unfortunately it doesn't say WHEN. :(

Yes 1901 was first sign of her - firstly with birth of son in February and then in 1901 census with husband and baby son age 5 weeks in Burnley. Husband James Andrews was single in 1891 census in Chadderton, Lancs.

Haven't found him in 1911 yet but he wasn't with wife and son in Salford - would be interesting to see whether he said if he was married or not. In 1911she says she's married and head of the household and on her death certificate in 1915 it says she was his widow. Wonder if they had split up and she didn't know where he was or if he was working away!!

There's so many James Andrews in the 1911 census - just hoping to be able to search by place of birth asap.

Thanks - Will keep tabs on the LDS but think this will take a long time to solve if ever!!

                    Hi JBee,

In case you haven't seen the thread mentioning it yet, the Irish BMD indexes have now gone online at FamilySearch Record Search

See this thread for more info: http://www.familytreeforum.com/resea...n-indexes.html
